The City Plaza, located in the heart of Athens is a closed down hotel that has re-opened as a refugee hostel run by local Greek volunteers.
The new guests come from Syria, Iraq, Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan. They have all fled from their homes arriving with no belongings and do not need to pay to stay. At City Plaza, 400 refugees, including 185 children, find a place that offers privacy, security, dignity and hope.
The hotel is managed by an activist group, together with the refugees and without support from the state. They provide food, hygeine, a pharmacy, a barber, as well as language courses, a library and legal support.
