Open letter from Refugee Aid

Dear Freinds

Refugee Aid is a Penzance born organisation with a mission to take support to refugees where it is most needed, without any large organisational costs.

The donations we receive go to the families and children that are suffering in the wake of war, ecological disasters and political tyranny.

One of the projects, that was launched earlier this year, leaves for Calais on the 6th of November 2015, with two vans loaded with donations from the residents of West Cornwall.

Refugee Aid has already raised the core costs, associated with the trip and are looking for additional cash donations or in kind contributions.

As a priority, we need cash donations via our just giving page: .

Your donation will contribute directly to the costs of the initial mission to Calais. The first van, driver and diesel costs have been very kindly donated by West Cornwall Removers (read article) and the volunteers are giving their time freely.

Follow the trip on our Twitter and Facebook pages @refugee_aid –

Refugee Aid is working in partnership with the Cornishman Newspaper and a journalist is also part of the team going to Calais.

The Refugee Aid team of volunteers will stay in Calais supporting the refugees in any way they can, distributing the goods donated and fact finding to support future activity.

The Cornishman has taken a keen interest in our trip and is offering press coverage to any local businesses who support this mission. Those who offer support will be included in the next article that will become a full page spread after the mission returns from Calais.

This activity forms part of a much wider fundraising initiative across Penwith in partnership with Medecins SansFrontieres and Shelter Box.

This includes:

  1. An art action at Queens Hotel on the 20th of November with David Lay as the host and auctioneer
  2. Popular local band ‘Pondlife’ have reformed for a one night sell-out gig, a the Ritz nightclub in Penzance.
  3. A series of fundraising events at Archie Browns Restaurant in Penzance starting on Friday the 13th October.

These events will showcase those who have supported the mission and your companies name will be present on the information and media we distribute after the trip to Calais.

Many people have expressed a feeling of helplessness when watching the terrible situation unfold on television and in the press. You can actively help Refugee Aid through your donations, buying tickets and spreading the word with the posters attached or taking part in the Auction.

You can let us know what you can contribute in cash or kind or you can give anonymously and know you have done something that will actually help.

Please feel free to make contact on Facebook or drop us and email.

kindest regards

Tamzin Wood
